Operation Octarine is a camping festival and intentional space for practitioners of chaos magic and other eclectic, creative, and non-dogmatic practices of magic, witchcraft, and the occult. O∴O∴ is organized dedicated community members who seek to foster the agency of all with mutual respect and consent-based governance.

What is O∴O∴?
What is Chaos Magic?
Chaos Magic is the intersection of postmodernism and occult practice. Rather than being a set of practices or beliefs, chaos magic emphasizes that the best approach emerges from imagination and adaptability. The chaos magician paradigm shifts, adopting different techniques and viewpoints based on personal preferences and whatever goal they wish to manifest.
Chaos magic may frame an approach to traditional systems of practice or new innovations and personal system building. It can range from techniques of raw communication with the unconscious mind to complex eclectic magical models adapted from popular culture.
What is Sociocracy?
Sociocracy is consent-based governance and it is how we have decided to organize Operation Octarine. It is about running things in a way where everyone is informed, heard, and has equal power in delegation and decision making. Sociocracy is direct democracy as it prevents the power of majority from overriding personal agency.
We believe the practice of magic should also promote and empower each individual’s agency. Our personal worlds include other people and so we are met a choice: whether magic should give us power over others or the power to create collaboratively with others. In adopting sociocracy, we have dedicated ourselves to the collaborative approach.
For more on sociocracy, we recommend checking out Sociocracy For All.
We are happy to announce that the following presenters will be sharing rituals, workshops, and lectures on multiple topics surrounding magical practice at this year’s festival

Nia Ain
Nia started practicing chaos and thelemic magick in Chicago's occult scene of the late 90's. They have taught chaos magick for over a decade including classes at The Occult Bookstore in Chicago, workshops at the Babalon Rising festival at Midian with their partner, Lachan, as well as mentoring independently and as a member of the Illuminates of Thanateros.
Nia's recent work is developing Emanant Void Magick, a narrative onotology and open framework for magical systems building, and contributing to build magical community as an organizer of the Operation Octarine festival and member of the Society of the Headless.

Lara D.
Lara (they/them), also known as Lachan (לחן) in certain online and occult circles, is a multi-disciplinary visual artist, community organizer, and seasoned ritualist hailing from New England. Their magical practice is eclectic—drawing inspiration and technique from chaos and ceremonial magic, popular culture, and various folk traditions—and is inextricably linked to their identity as a queer anti-Zionist Jew. Lara has over a decade of experience leading chaos magic workshops and group rituals with their partner and co-organizer, Nia Ain, and has held memberships in the Ordo Templi Orientis (O.T.O.) and the Illuminates of Thanateros (IOT). Lara is a co-organizer of Operation Octarine and a member of the Society of the Headless; both are magical projects that utilize consent-based governance and distributed authority to foster diverse magical practices and individual agency.

Operation Octarine Will Be Held at Camp Midian
Thursday Sept 24 - Sunday Sept 27, 2026
Midian is an event venue that offers primitive camping with limited electricity, a sheltered stage, fresh drinking water, firewood, firepits, and hiking trails.
While we strive to make O:.O:. as accessible as possible, there are sections of Midian that may be difficult to traverse if you have mobility issues. Pathways around the camp will be clearly marked and illuminated at night for safer passage.
Operation Octarine will have all necessary sanitation solutions including port-o-lets and a roll-off dumpster.
Please note that Midian does not have shower facilities. Attendees should make plans for attending to their personal hygiene during the event in other ways. (The space does have rinse/cooling stations but use of soaps, shampoos, and other detergents is not permitted.) Do not bring a personal camp shower as you will be asked to disassemble and remove it, per county health regulation.
The campground is mostly shaded and has a maintained gravel track that is accessible to all motor vehicle types. The track loops for easy load in/out. If you plan to bring a camper or RV to Midian, please coordinate with the Front Gate staff where to park your vehicle.
Free public parking is available for all vehicles just outside of the Midian’s front gate, just a short walk from the campsites
